Where to Stay in Mykonos

Where you stay in Mykonos shapes almost every other decision of the trip. Stay in Chora and you have the town at your doorstep but noise at night and prices that reflect the address. Stay in Ornos or Agios Stefanos and you pay less, sleep better, and are 10 minutes from town. Stay in the interior or the quiet south coast and you have a different trip entirely. The right answer depends on what you want the island to be.

Price Reality

Mykonos is among the most expensive islands in Greece for accommodation. In July and August, a decent double room anywhere on the island starts at €150–200 per night; boutique hotels in Chora run €300–600 and above. In May, June, September, and October, the same properties cost 30–50% less and availability is substantially better. The shoulder months are not a compromise — the island is genuinely better in those periods.

Booking Advice

Contact the hotels to book directly. Most hotels offer the same rate or better for direct bookings than through OTAs, and the relationship gives you more flexibility on arrival and departure times. For July and August, book at least three months in advance. For shoulder months, six to eight weeks is usually sufficient.

If the hotels don’t offer discounts for direct reservations then make sure to check the rates on online booking websites such as Agoda and Expedia.
