Money and Prices in Mykonos

Mykonos is consistently one of the most expensive destinations in Europe during peak season. Understanding the price landscape in advance helps you allocate your budget sensibly rather than being surprised at the bill. This page covers realistic costs for accommodation, food, transport, and activities — not the minimum possible, but what you can expect to spend making reasonable choices.

Accommodation

In July and August: a basic studio or guesthouse runs €120–180 per night; a mid-range boutique hotel €250–400; a high-end property €500–1,200 and above. In June and September: reduce all figures by approximately 30%. In May and October: reduce by 40–50%.

These are per-room figures. Most hotels on Mykonos do not include breakfast in their quoted rates — add €15–25 per person per day if you plan to eat at the property.

Food and Drink

Coffee: €3–4 at a café; €5–7 at a hotel or tourist-facing spot. Gyros/souvlaki: €3.50–5. Lunch at a taverna: €20–35 per person with wine. Dinner at a traditional taverna: €35–55 per person. Dinner at a restaurant in a prime location: €60–100+ per person. A cocktail: €14–22. House wine by the carafe (half-liter): €12–18. Local beer: €5–7.

The gap between eating at tourist-facing establishments and local-serving ones is 20–35% — meaningful over a week-long stay.

Transport

Bus fare: €2–2.50 per journey. Taxi from Chora to south coast beach: €15–25. Rental car: €50–80 per day (peak season). ATV rental: €30–50 per day. Airport taxi: €15–20. Ferry Piraeus–Mykonos (fast): €65–85 per person. Domestic flight Athens–Mykonos: €60–120 depending on timing.

Activities and Entrance Fees

Delos ferry and entrance: approximately €20. Archaeological Museum: €4. Maritime Museum: €4. Beach sunbeds: €15–25 per pair at organized south coast beaches, higher at certain clubs. Snorkeling or diving session: €50–80. Half-day boat charter (semi-private): €80–120 per person.

Practical Tips

  • ATMs are available in Chora and at the ports. Carrying some cash is useful — Kiki’s Taverna at Agios Sostis, some small shops, and several beach services are cash-only.
  • Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in Chora and at organized beaches. Contactless payment works widely.
  • The service charge (couvert/cover charge) of €1–2 per person appears on most taverna bills — it’s legitimate and covers bread and water.
  • Tipping is discretionary: 10% for attentive restaurant service is the local norm; nothing extra is expected at bars.
